Linux+FOSS Goodness

May 12th, 2009

I totally forgot to mention it when I posted about the new site, but the entire build for this site was done using Free/Open Source software. A nice milestone for my own production process, that I’m quite happy about.

I’ve been running Ubuntu at home for quite a while now, of course, and have used it for components of jobs in the past, naturally – mostly for coding: HTML, PHP, AS3/Flexbuilder, etc. But this is the first site for which I’ve done all of the graphics as well as the coding – using Inkscape and the GIMP. I’d used Inkscape previously for various graphic jobs – t-shirt designs, logos, etc. And I’ve dabbled with GIMP – but my work process is so much quicker with Photoshop that I’ve typically defaulted back to PS for most jobs.

But now, happily, I know that I can comfortably do most any part of any job on my native Ubuntu install if I’m so inclined. :-)

Legacy Portfolio

May 11th, 2009

for anyone looking for older examples of my portfolio, i will be posting some of the more recent, exemplary pieces on this site, but a number of them will still exist only on sparrowheart.ca – so if you want to check out more of my slightly more historical work than that listed here, please follow this link through to my previous site’s work section.

Brand New Site

May 11th, 2009

here she be, the newest incarnation of my online home – fejalish.com. i’ve had the domain name for over a year now, and finally just pulled my socks up and bootstrapped it all together.

i wanted to leverage a site that tied together my various online outlets (portfolio, blog, photos, etc.) into one coherent, substantial, visceral whole. the site is based on wordpress, with various reworkings to suite my own purposes. part of the reason for this was to take advantage of the ability to update my content more quickly and easily than on my previous site.

i’ve recently began using twitter as well. and have the most recent ‘tweets’ visible on the right side of this site.

now i just need to take some new photos so my most flickrs are not half a year old. :-)
